Malaysia's Independence Day, known as Hari Merdeka, is a festive time to be in Kuala Lumpur, or anywhere in Malaysia. The country only gained its independence from Britain in 1957, and Malaysians still celebrate the historic event with gusto.

One great place to search for bargains is the recently opened Johor Premium Outlets, launched in December 2011. It is the first in the South East Asian region, under the Premium Outlet Franchise. The outlets has 80 outlet stores, with designer and brand names in a 175,000 square feet area. Besides this, there are the malls in and around the country in the various states also offering great discounts.

This prestigious event gives an insight into Malaysia's fascinating contemporary arts scene. The unique platform showcases both established and up-and-coming names in the industry.

Held for the second consecutive year, 1MCAT is a national festival that celebrates and showcases Malaysia's very own artists' works of art and this year, Sabah is honoured to participate in its state-level, along with other states namely Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Pahang, Penang, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. It acts as a platform for art enthusiasts, gallery owners, artists as well as the new generation of collectors to forge business alliances, acquire new contemporary art works, share ideas and exchange information about the new contemporary art of Malaysia.
